Former Ambassador to the Republic of Korea and Italy's Special Envoy for Disarmament and Non-proliferation. Current Chairman designate of the Missile Technology Control Regime

Ambassador Carlo Trezza serves as the Chairman Designate of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), a role he was appointed to in October 26 2012. Prior to this, since 2010, he served as is the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the UN Secretary General for Disarmament Matters.

Ambassador Trezza joined the Italian Foreign Service in 1970, serving in Zambia, Israel and Germany, before returning in 1981 to Rome to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Political Affairs Department. In 1984, he was posted to Madrid as the First Counsellor. In 1989 he was the Head of the Press and Information Section of the Embassy of Italy in Washington, DC, a post he held for three years. From 1992 until 1996, he served as Head of the European Security and Disarmament Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome followed by a year in the Office of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Prior to becoming Italy’s representative to the Conference on Disarmament, he served as Ambassador of Italy to the Republic of Korea from 1998-2002 and Coordinator for Security and Disarmament of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Political Department from 2002-2003.
