George Robertson

Former NATO Secretary General, Former Secretary of State for Defence

The Rt Hon Lord Robertson of Port Ellen is a British Labour Party politician and served as 10th Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation from 1999-2003. He served Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom from 1997-99 in Tony Blairs first government. He served in the British House of Commons for twenty one years and now sits in the House of Lords. He is Special Adviser to BPplc and served on BP’s Russian Joint Venture TNK-BP as Deputy Chairman. He is Senior Counsellor with the Washington-based consultancy The Cohen Group, is Chairman of the (campaigning road safety organisation) the FIA Foundation, Vice Chairman of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and Chairman of Western Ferries (Clyde)Ltd. He is a Special Adviser to Chatham House and on the Councils of IISS and The Centre for European Reform. He is a member of the Top Level Group for Multilateral Disarmament and Non-Proliferation.
