Gernot Erler

Former Coord­inator for Intersocietal Cooperation with Russia, Central Asia, and the Eastern Partnership Countries

Gernot Erler is a former Social Democratic Party politician in the Bundestag, representing Freiburg from 1987 until 2017.

During this time, Gernot served as Coordinator of German-Russian Intersocietal Cooperation (2002-2006) and as Minister of State in the Federal Foreign Office (2005-2009). Prior to this, serving as Chairman of the Disarmament and Arms Control Committee (1994-1998), and Deputy Chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag, responsible for foreign, defence, development policy and human rights. In addition, Erler held the position of Special Representative of the Federal Government of Germany for the OSCE Chairmanship in 2016.

Mr Erler is a member of the Advisory Board for the European Leadership Network (ELN).
