Giorgio La Malfa
Former Minister for European AffairsGiorgio La Malfa is an Italian politician and former Minister for European Affairs.
He was first elected to Parliament in 1976 and served as a Member of Parliament since that time. He was also elected to the European Parliament from 1989 to 1991 and again from 1994 to 1999.
He was Chairman of the Industry Commission in 1979; Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee from 1983 to 1987; President of the Legislative Committee in 1988 and Chairman of the Finance Committee from 2001 to 2005.
He has served as Minister of Finance and Economic Planning in several governments and from 2005 to 2006 was Minister for European Affairs and Coordinator for national Lisbon Strategy in the third Berlusconi government.
From 1987 until 2001, he was secretary of the Italian Republican Party (PRI) and was President of the party from 2002 to 2006. In 2007, he was Leader of the House of Representatives.
He is the author of several books and is a member of the Executive Board for the European Leadership Network for Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament and Non-proliferation (ELN).
