Klaus Naumann

Former Chief of Staff of the German armed forces, Former Chairman of the NATO Military Committee

General Klaus Naumann is a retired German General who served as Chief of Staff of the Bundeswehr – the German armed forces – from 1991 to 1996, and as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee from 1996 to 1999.

General Naumann retired in May 1999 near the end of the Kosovo Air Campaign. After his retirement, he served as a member of the UN Panel on UN Peace Operations in 2000 and in 2001 as a member of the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty.

In 2009 he served as a commissioner in the International Commission on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (ICNND).

He has received a multitude of awards and military honours both in his native Germany and worldwide.
