Ruud Lubbers

Former Prime Minister

The ELN is saddened to hear of the passing of Ruud Lubbers, who was a long-serving and committed member of our network. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and close friends.

Ruud Lubbers was the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs from 1973 to 1977 and became Prime Minister of the Netherlands in 1982, serving for 12 years until 1994. In 1994 he became Professor on Globalization, as well as International President of WWF. In 2001-2005 he served as UN High Commissioner for Refugees. During that time, he was a member of the Earth Charter Commission.
