Michelle Shevin-Coetzee

Associate Fellow at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP)

Michelle Shevin-Coetzee is a 2018-2019 Fulbright Schuman Fellow conducting research on the impact of Brexit on European defence policy. She is an Associate Fellow at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) in Berlin and was a Visiting Research Associate at Chatham House in London.

Michelle worked previously at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments and the Center for a New American Security, both in Washington, D.C. While an undergraduate, she served as a policy intern in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for four years. Michelle graduated summa cum laude from the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs with a B.A. in International Affairs and a minor in Arabic. She has also studied at the University of Cambridge.

Michelle currently is the president of the Women in International Security (WIIS) Washington, D.C. chapter. She has been actively involved with WIIS since founding and serving as the president of the George Washington University chapter.
