Alain Richard is a French Senator and former Minister of Defence from 1997 to 2002 in the Lionel Jospin Cabinet.
An alumnus of the Ecole Nationale d’Administration, he served as mayor of Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône,Vice President of the National Assembly, judge in the High Court of Justice, state councilor, senator, and member of the Senate delegation to the European Union. He was re-elected to the French Senate for Val d’Oise in 2011 where he currently serves as a member of the European Affairs Commission.
He is a member of Initiatives for Nuclear Disarmament (IDN) and the Advisory Board of the ELN.
