Elizabeth Symons

Former Minister of State for the Middle East

Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean is former Minister in the UK Government and currently is a Labour Peer in the House of Lords.

Baroness Symons has held ministerial posts for both the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Ministry of Defence (MOD). These posts include Minister of State for Defence Procurement, from 1999 until 2001; Minister of State for International Trade and Investment, from 2001 until 2003; and Minister of State for Middle East, from 2003 until 2005. She has also served as the Prime Minister’s Envoy to the Gulf and from 2001 until 2005 was Deputy Leader of the House of Lords.

Baroness Symons has a wide range of experience, in the Middle East in particular, and is adviser to a number of commercial organisationsincluding DLA Piper, The CCC Group, Rio Tinto, Blenheim Capital and the KSC Group.

She is also a member of the Top Level Group of UK Parliamentarians for Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation.
