Former Chair of the Parliamentary Defence Select Committee

The Rt Hon James Arbuthnot MP is a British Conservative politician. He first entered Parliament in 1987 as MP for Wanstead & Woodford and since 1997 has represented North East Hampshire. He served as Opposition Chief Whip in 1997 until 2001 and as Shadow Secretary of State for Trade from 2003 until 2005, before becoming Chairman of the House of Commons Defence Select Committee, a post he held from 2005 to 2014.
