Juhani Kaskeala

Former Chief of Defence

Admiral Pauli Juhani Kaskeala is a senior Finnish Admiral and served as Chief of Defence of the Finnish Defence Forces from 2001 until 2009.

In 1982, Admiral Kaskeala was appointed as Third Aide-de-Camp to the President of the Republic, Mauno Koivisto and was promoted to First Aide-de-Camp in 1987.

From 1989 until 1991, he served as Commander of a missile squadron in the Coastal Fleet. From 1991 until 1994, he held the post of Military Attaché in the Finnish embassies of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Belgium. He then served as Principal Secretary to the Defence Council from 1994 until 1997, and thereafter was Commander of the Turku and Pori Military Province until 1998.

He served as Director General for Defence Policy at Finland’s Ministry of Defence from 1998 to 2001, and was then the Finnish Military Representative to the EU and NATO in Brussels. He served as Chief of Defence of the Finnish Defence Forces from 2001 to August 2009. He has been Member of the Board of the John Nurminen Foundation since 2000, the KONE Corporation since 2009, Oy Forcit Ab since 2010, and Nixu Oyj since 2012. He has also been serving as Managing Director at Admiral Consulting Oy since 2011 and as Senior Advisor at Blic Oy since 2015.
