Nicole Ameline

Former Member of Parliament and Vice-Chair, United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW)

Dr Nicole Ameline is Vice-Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and French candidate for the 2020 term. Leading on the sustainable development goals, Dr Ameline is an expert on women’s rights and is committed to the empowerment of women in peace and security.

A jurist by training, Nicole served several terms as a member of the National Assembly for the Republican party between 1991 and 2017, holding Ministerial portfolios on gender and equality, maritime issues, and decentralisation, as well as a member of several parliamentary committees. Nicole served as French representative to the International Labour Organisation and as Ambassador at large on globalisation and social issues from 2005 to 2007. During her time as representative to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Dr Ameline served as Chair of the Defence and Security Committee, holding extensive expertise in supporting access to women in politics.
