Tasnim Motala serves as defense counsel at the Military Commissions Defense Organization, where she represents a man facing the death penalty in Guantanamo Bay. Prior to her current role, she taught and co-directed the Movement Lawyering Clinic at Howard University School of Law, where she worked on cases relating to protesters’ rights, reparations, prison conditions, and economic justice. Her legal scholarship has appeared in the Stanford Law Review and the Harvard Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law Review. Tasnim has been named on the Forbes 30 under 30 List for Law and Policy and the Fortune 40 under 40 List for Law and Government. She is a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School.
