Vladimír Lastuvka

Nuclear physicist and politician

Vladimír Lastuvka is a nuclear physicist and politician.

He was a member of the Czech Parliament between 1990 until 1992 as well as a member of the Presidium of the Czech National Council. Lastuvka also served as the deputy chair of the Committee for European integration between 2002 and 2006 and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee. He also served as a Member of the European Parliament in 2004.

Vladimír Lastuvka is widely recognized for his human rights activities while he was a university lecturer during the 1970s and for which he was imprisoned in the late 70s. As a student leader, he had been expelled from the Communist Party in 1969.

He joined the Czech Social Democratic Party (CSSD) in 1989.
