Thomas Oppermann has been the parliamentary party leader of the SPD in the Bundestag since 2013 and was also parliamentary executive of the party. He has been a member of the Bundestag since 2005. Previously he led the ministry of science and culture of the Land Niedersachsen and was the speaker on economic policy of the regional parliament. Before joining politics he worked as a judge and legal councillor.
