ELN Policy Fellow Julia Berghofer speaks at Friedrich Ebert Stiftung roundtable on “Arms Control Post-Trump: A Revival of International Initiatives?”

Euractiv Slovakia in cooperation with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung hosted a virtual roundtable on “Arms Control Post-Trump: A Revival of International Initiatives?” on 8 June 2021. ELN Policy Fellow Julia Berghofer was invited as a panelist and presented on the actual state of arms control, looming challenges related to the development of new types of missile such as hypersonic and precision-guided weapons, as well as the difficulties with regards to bringing these new types of weapons under the framework of traditional arms control agreements. She also spoke about possible ways to bring other actors such as China on board for arms control negotiations and about NATO’s role in developing new treaties.
