Ray Acheson

Director of Reaching Critical Will

Ray Acheson is the Director of Reaching Critical Will, the disarmament programme of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF). She leads WILPF’s work advocating for disarmament and stigmatising war and violence, including by campaigning for a nuclear weapon ban treaty and challenging the arms trade, armed drones and autonomous weapons, and the use of explosive weapons. Ray represents WILPF on the International Steering Group of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017. She was involved in developing ICAN’s strategy and advocacy for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and participated actively as a civil society advocate and analyst during the negotiations of the Treaty. She has an Honours BA in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Toronto and an MA in Politics from The New School for Social Research.
